Battle of the Gluten Free Breads - Udi's

Udi's is the last brand I will write about. I did this on purpose because of all the brands I buy, Udi's is the one I purchase most frequently.

Taste
Udi's bread actually tastes good. It doesn't have the 'sponge' taste that some gluten free breads have, nor is its taste overpowering. I think this makes it a fantastic capsule for a sandwich. I generally get the whole grain bread, but also really like the omega flaz & fiber one.

Texture
While it is heavier than actual gluten it is lighter than many gluten free breads = plus one point. However, I find it to be a bit on the dry side = minus half a point.

Durability
This bread does not disintegrate. Even under pressures of the most challenging
sandwiches, I find this bread holds together very nicely.

Normal vs. Toasted
One of the rare breads that is nice both toasted as well as not toasted. My preference still remains for it to be toasted, but it is nice to be able to have a normal sandwich I can bring to work.

Other
The biggest plus - you can buy Udi's bread unfrozen at both Whole Foods and Trader Joe's in Manhattan = plus one million points. It is cheapest at Trader Joe's ($4.69 if I recall correctly) but won't break the bank any place you buy it. Also, as mentioned having a fiber enriched option is a plus for most on a gluten free diet as it tends to be something the diet is low on (wheat is fiber rich, rice is not).

What do you think of Udi's?
