My Hamilton Beach smoothie blender is easily my most used kitchen appliance at the moment. I love that it is blend-and-go. |
Who doesn't love a smoothie? They are easy to make, quick to consume, and can be made to be very good for you. Last month I returned to my smoothie groove as part of my easy 'I'm on a detox' breakfast. This trend is happily carrying along to this month's paleo diet challenge.
I was using a supplement, Vega One, which was recommended to me long ago by a friend. It is fantastic as it is not only gluten free, it is also vegan. However, I have stopped using it lately as at my local vendor, they have stopped carrying the mid-size packages so I can only get the single serving (rip off) or the monstrous container (which I did but does not fit well in my Manhattan size apartment). Note that if you use Vega One it will turn your smoothie green. If that freaks you out, just ensure you use a strongly colored ingredient to overthrow the green.
The majority of my smoothies have contained only fruit (I always mean to throw in some kale or spinach but often forget). Here are a few of my favorite blends, each starting with 1 cup of unsweetened coconut milk and one tbsp of flax meal:

- Banana + Strawberry + Kiwi
- Blueberry + Peach + Raspberry
- Mango + Pineapple
- Banana + 1 tbsp almond butter + 2 tbsp walnuts
- Blackberry + Raspberry + Blueberry + Strawberry
All the vegetables I use are frozen (either purchased that way or I've chopped them up from fresh bought and frozen them).
Are you a fan of smoothie? What's your favorite blend? Do you have a favorite supplement you add to yours?
